TEHRAN - Cotton production in Iran is expected to increase by 20 percent in the present Iranian calendar year (ends on March 20), an authorities with the Agriculture Ministry said.According to Ebrahim Hezarjaribi, the director of the ministrys cotton production program, currently, the products from 100,000 hectares of cotton fields throughout Iran have been collected and thinking about the present output, a 20-percent increase in overall production is possible.
The overall cotton production in the nation is expected to reach 300,000 lots in the existing year, Hezarjaribi was estimated by Tasnim news agency.Pointing to a 17-percent boost in the area under cotton growing this year compared to the previous year, the authorities said: Last year, almost 97,500 hectares of cotton fields were cultivated throughout the nation.
