Slovenian authorities have actually arrested 2 foreign nationals suspected of spying for Russias GRU military intelligence firm, the Slovenian paper Delo reported Monday.
The arrest operation was conducted in December by the Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency (SOVA) in the capital Ljubljana, with suspects apparently being arrested at a rented office space in the citys Beigrad community.
A minimum of among the suspects holds Argentine citizenship, while both run in the EU member state under an incorrect identity, according to details obtained by Delo.
The two supposed agents, who are believed to be a part of a broader net of GRU sleeper cells running in the West, face up to 8 years in jail on charges of espionage and supplying incorrect information.
Russian authorities have not yet discussed the event.
In October, Norwegian authorities arrested GRU representative Mikhail Mikushin, who operated under the incorrect identity of Brazilian academic Jos Assis Giammaria and took part in a research study program at the University of Troms.
However Russian authorities did not confirm relate to Mikushin and labeled his arrest part of a spy mania that is being actively promoted in Norway.
