KATHMANDU, APRIL 2Birgunj Metropolitan City has continued its campaign to identify encroachments on public property and remove illegally constructed structures along roadsides.

The local government has sustained its efforts due to the growing trend of encroachment on public ponds and land, leading to the construction of physical structures on these areas.As part of the ongoing campaign, the metropolis demolished houses and huts in Ward No.
29 on Monday.
Currently, a 7.5-kilometer blacktopped road from Bagahi to Paras Chowk, passing through Musaili Basaldilwa, Bakner, and Parsagadhi, is under construction.
The metropolis took action to remove these huts after repeated notices went unheeded.Previously, the Birgunj metropolis had removed illegally constructed physical structures at Pratima Chowk of Birgunj metropolis-15 along the Postal Highway.
An agreement was reached to complete the construction of a 150-meter road section from Pratima Chowk towards Kalaiya by June 12, at a cost of Rs 6.915 million.Hari Pokharel, secretariat advisor to the Mayor of Birgunj metropolis, Rakeshman Singh, stated that the metropolitan city has acquired ownership of 28 public ponds and over 148 bighas of land throughout the campaign.
