SULTANPUR LODHI: A home guard jawan was killed and five cops were injured in a clash with a group of Nihang Sikhs at Gurdwara Akal Bunga at Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjabs Kapurthala district on Thursday.
Four Nihangs also sustained injuries, but police said these were not caused by bullets.Two Nihang groups have been fighting for the past few days over control of the Gurdwara Akal Bunga.However, matters escalated when one of the groups forcibly took over the gurdwara, and police intervened to get the premises vacated Thursday.Home guard jawan Jaspal Singh died on the spot as the Nihangs fired at the police team.
Punjabs DGP Arpit Shukla said police went to the site following a complaint lodged by the group that was evicted.
