HYDERABAD: A man, who cheated some women under the pretext of marrying them, taking away their money and stealing their valuables, was arrested by Market police on Thursday.
Police said that T Mohan Reddy, a resident of Kandukur in Rangareddy district, is facing seven different cases in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Officials said the accused would register himself on various matrimonial websites under a false name and establish contact with women, including divorcees and widows.After speaking to each of the women over phone, he would invite them to a hotel to have personal interaction.When the women go to washroom or step out by leaving their bag or other valuables, he would steal them and flee from the place, police said.Mohan created a fake ID on a matrimonial website first, using a fake name as Gowtham Reddy and cheated a woman after meeting her twice in Hyderabad.
He gained her confidence and promised to marry her.
Under some pretext, he asked for her credit card and purchased jewellery without her knowledge.
He bought jewellery worth Rs 6.21 lakh and later switched off his phone, Market police said.
The accused later sold the jewellery in Vijayawada.
In an another instance, he convinced a woman to transfer Rs 9 lakh into his account and became inaccessible after receiving the money.
In 2013, the accused allegedly misbehaved with a girl student, while he was working as a teacher in the same school.
