GURGAON: A Class 7 student of a CBSE school in Faridabad died on Thursday morning, a day after she had vomited during class and while returning home in the bus.The girl's parents accused the school authorities of negligence, alleging that they were kept in the dark about her health even after she informed her class teacher that she wasn't feeling well on Wednesday morning.
The girl, Aradhya Khandelwal, was made to sit in the class until she completed her maths test and then allowed to go to the infirmary, they added.A mother of one of the girl's classmates said the 11-year-old wasn't feeling well from the morning itself.
"My daughter was Aradhya's best friend.
She told me that when the girl informed her class teacher that she was feeling nauseous, she was asked to go to the washroom.
Aradhya was then made to sit through the test despite feeling uneasy.
All through, she was sweating," the mother told TOI.At one point, Aradhya wasn't able to walk on her own and appeared drowsy.
"She couldn't keep her eyes open," the mother said, quoting her daughter. She questioned the school's decision not to inform the girl's parents about her health.
"That is the first thing they should have done.
The class teacher was aware of her condition.
They sent her to the sick room, but chose to ignore the symptoms for hours," she added. The Class 7 student stayed in the school until the classes were over for the day at 1.30pm.
On her way back home, she vomited again in the bus and was scolded by the driver for making the seats dirty.Abhilash Khandelwal, Aradhya's father, said she just asked for lemon water after returning home.
"An hour later - around 3.30pm - she rushed to the washroom and vomited again.
That is when we realised that she wasn't well.
But we thought it was the first time that day that she had puked.
We had no idea about what had happened in the school," said Khandelwal, an electrical engineer and a resident of Sector 19.The girl's parents informed their family paediatrician, who prescribed a few medicines and an ORS solution.
"We asked her about her health when we found that her uniform was a bit dirty.
She said she felt like going to the washroom repeatedly, but did not reveal anything about going to the infirmary," her father said.Later in the evening, she told her parents she was feeling better and went to sleep.
On Thursday morning - around 6 - Aradhya started vomiting again.
Her parents took her to a nearby hospital, where an ECG was done.
Doctors found no pulse and declared her dead. The parents said their daughter could have been given timely treatment had the school informed them about her health the previous morning.
"We had no idea that our child was feeling this ill in class on Wednesday.
She was fine when she left for school in the morning," Khandelwal sobbed. The school principal told TOI they would fulfil all the legal formalities and cooperate with any investigation that was launched.
The girl's parents met the principal and the class teacher and were assured of an internal inquiry."We will do whatever is deemed necessary.
The incident is unfortunate, but it occurred long after she had left the school," the principal said. The paediatrician who prescribed the medicines said he gave instructions only on the basis of what was told to him over the phone by Aradhya's father.
"All the symptoms pointed to dehydration," the doctor said. The girl's parents refused to get an autopsy done.
Till late on Sunday evening, they were yet to lodge a police complaint either.
The family, however, took to Twitter to list the allegations against the school authorities.
