Director Smriti Mundhra has achieved not one but 2 coups while recording the Netflix series The Romantics, the four part series thats devoted to filmmaker Yash Chopra.
For this unique series, Smriti handled to talk to Yash Chopras son and current head of Yash Raj Films, Aditya Chopra.
Adi, as hes more affectionately described in the industry, is a recluse and his appearances are so unusual that individuals really talk about if he exists or not.
The other feat in The Romantics is an interview with the late Rishi Kapoor.
It is, in all likelihood, his last ever interview taped just days prior to his passing in 2020.
In conversation with ETimes, Smriti remembers how he managed to get Adi and Rishi on camera and how these interviews have actually made all the difference to her series.

Aditya Chopra has actually been a legendary figure, there have been a lot of short articles about him, whether he exists or not, due to the fact that he is such a recluse.
You actually handled to bring him on video camera for an interview after twenty five years.
How did you manage to persuade him? It was certainly not a simple procedure.
I think the only challenge in this whole process was convincing Aditya Chopra to speak to me.
But I believe we just began, with some background discussions, simply to get more, so I can get more context in regards to the history of the movies and the family and all of that.
And after that gradually, convincing everybody in the household to talk.
I spoke to Uday and Mrs.
Pam Chopra.
I informed Aditya, lets just tape-record an interview.
You do not need to let me use it, however you can put it in your archives.
100 years from now, someone can discover it.
But since were here, were shooting all these things, were telling the story about your family, lets just movie something.
He extremely reluctantly agreed to that.
You understand, initially he stated just audio, and after that, I said, well, the electronic cameras here, lets simply turn the cam on.
And then he concurred.
And after that, he still stated no, you cant actually utilize this in the series.
You can just utilize it for background details.
And after that finally, we were modifying the series and when I showed it to him later on, much later on, it was extremely obvious how crucial his presence was, in telling the story, specifically the story of his father, Yash Chopra.
I think since of the regard he has for his dad, this series is truly a tribute to his daddys tradition.
He then hesitantly agreed to enable it to stay.We also get to see Rishi Kapoor, in maybe his last interview? We really talked to him in 2020.
That interview was done one month prior to he passed.
It was such a wedding.
It was such a special interview, most likely one of the most memorable I did in this whole series.
You know, clearly at that time, he had actually been having some health issue, but to see him on set that day when we shot his interview, you might have never ever thought that we would lose him a month later on.
He had plenty of life, gregarious, fired up to talk, had so many stories to share, so much reminiscing.
He was so gracious with his time.
I think we talked for 3 hours.
It resembled he took us into a time device, talking about the early days of his career and of course, his relationship with Yash Chopra and the films that they made together, consisting of Yashjis last movie, Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Just to see the period of their professions, together, their lives together was really incredible.
Also hes the most charming guy, and he looked amazing.
He was wearing this fantastic purple suit and was just excited to talk.
Having his amazing other half, Neetu Ji with him, was simply a definitely terrific experience. But he was likewise understood to be a taskmaster.
Was convincing him for the interview tough? It really wasnt.
He agreed to do the interview because it was for Yash Chopra.
But once he was on camera, it seemed like he had absolutely nothing else worldwide to do but talk and recollect.
He made it very easy for me as a filmmaker and as the individual interviewing him.
We just had the most fantastic time.
Ultimately, its a 4 part series and I couldnt utilize everything that we spoke about.
Theres so much more and I kept attempting to find places to put more and more of Rishi Kapoor in there because it was a special interview.
He wasnt hurrying out the door or anything.
What is your favorite YRF film?I need to state Chandni.
I simply viewed it once again recently.
I have no reason to watch it again now due to the fact that Ive most likely seen it 25 times by now, throughout making the series and even before.
Its simply one of those movies I never ever tire of.
I love enjoying it.
Sridevis performance and just her energy is something else.
Shes never ever been much better, in any movie.
She was just definitely amazing, a revelation.
Its probably my primary film and after that theres DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge).
I tell those people who are interested and curious about Hindi films to see those two motion pictures.
Its the perfect introduction.Read AlsoShridhar Raghavan drops a major tip about YRFs spy universe; says, In the next couple of films ...
