Bobby Charlton, who has died aged 86, was arguably the finest footballer that England has yet produced; whatever the claims of the supporters of Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney or Paul Gascoigne, he was certainly the most successful, being with his clubmate, Nobby Stiles, the only English player to have won the game&s two premier trophies: the World and European Cups.
