A no-confidence motion will be moved against Public Security Minister Tiran Alles if he fails to establish a safe and secure environment in the country, says MP Lalith Ellawala. He urged the lawmaker to take the required measures to crack down on the rising crime rate and the activities of the underworld. The minister should resign if cannot create a safe and secure environment within at least a month, Ellawala stressed, vowing to move a no-confidence motion against Alles if he does not step down from the post.Meanwhile, a three-day parliamentary debate on the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition against Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella is scheduled for next week.It was reported that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has asked all MPs to be present in the Chamber for the parliamentary sittings from September 05-08.The motion of no-confidence against the Health Minister was handed over to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) on July 21, with the signatures of 45 MPs.The main opposition moved the motion over the alleged irresponsible importation of ‘substandard’ medicinal drugs and surgical equipment which they said crippled the country’s healthcare system.
