--> The suspect, whose name the police have not disclosed, is said to be aware of the sources of the huge quantity of explosives that were seized by the police recently in Bhatkal town of Uttara Kannada district.

“We detained a person in the south (police) division of Bengaluru on Friday night in connection with the explosives seized in Bhatkal recently,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner M N Reddi told Deccan Herald.

Reddi clarified that the detention was not made in connection with the recent bomb blast at Church Street in which a woman was killed. “We have detained this person for questioning and our officers are interrogating him,” he said and refused to share further details.

“We are interrogating him to ascertain who supplied him the explosives and if he had travelled elsewhere in the country to hand over the materials. We will also quiz him regarding the Church Street blast case,” a senior police officer, who is interrogating him, said. The police clarified that they did not recover any explosives from his residence so far.

Sources in the police said the house in BTM Layout was raided on the basis of information given by four men recently arrested for their suspected links with Indian Mujahideen (IM). During the interrogation, the suspects had told the police that the money was pumped in for terror activities through the hawala channel from abroad. They had also claimed that they did not receive any explosives from abroad, said the sources.

The police gathered more information based on the disclosures that the recently busted terror module prepared and supplied explosives for various blasts in the country. There are a few more persons involved in the production and supply of explosives who would be arrested shortly, the sources claimed.
