MOSCOW, December 9. /TASS/. New sanctions imposed by the United States on Russia for alleged violations of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) might derail a meeting of the Special Verification Commission (SVC), an implementing body for the treaty, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Saturday.

"New sanctions, which are expected to be expanded in the context of INF Treaty, might have only one consequence: the meeting of the Special Verification Commission (SVC), which the United States has offered to convene, might be derailed," he said.

The SVC previous meeting took place in Geneva on November 15-16, 2016, following a break since 2000.

Earlier, the US’ Politico reported that the Trump administration was levying new sanctions on Russia for alleged violations of the INF Treaty. The publication cited an anonymous senior administration official.
