GHAZIABAD: A resident doctor at AIIMS Delhi was arrested and brought to Ghaziabad on Tuesday after a 25-year-old woman accused him of raping and blackmailing her.

The woman also alleged in her police complaint that he doctor, who is from Mahedergarh in Haryana, had tricked her into taking abortion pills after she became pregnant following months of sexual abuse.

According to the complaint, the doctor's and the woman's family had met in March to talk matrimony and rings were exchanged at a ceremony on April 2.

The woman's family allegedly gave Rs 5 lakh "in dowry" during the engagement, but the doctor's family demanded another Rs 25 lakh and a Scorpio before the marriage, the complainant claimed.

The marriage was subsequently put on hold, with the doctor saying that he had to write his PhD papers in June and did not want to tie the knot before December, according to the complainant.

On May 24, the woman claimed, she shared with him that her parents were out of town, following which the doctor and his brother-in-law came to visit her.

The two, she alleged, offered her a drink spiked with intoxicants.

She claimed she became unconscious on consuming the drink and woke up to find herself disrobed on a bed, beside the doctor.

She also alleged in the complaint the doctor's brother-in-law had filmed them and later sexually assaulted her.

The doctor allegedly used the videos and photos to blackmail and sexually assault the woman on multiple occasions over the next few months.

She claimed he called her to the AIIMS hostel several times.

In October, when she became pregnant, he allegedly asked her to go for an abortion.

Later, she alleged, when she was unwell, he gave her an abortion pill that he claimed was a medication for fever.

ACP Kavi Nagar Abhishek Srivastava said the doctor has been booked under sections 376 (rape), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc, with intent to commit an offence), 377 (unnatural offences), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Eleven others, including his mother, sister and brother-in-law have been named in the FIR as well.

The ACP said medical exams had confirmed abortion.

"We arrested the doctor from the AIIMS hostel with the help of Delhi Police.

A police team was sent to his hometown in Haryana for further action," Srivastava said.
