HYDERABAD: A driver working for a Gachibowli-based diamond jewellery merchant has escaped with 7 crore worth diamond-studded gold jewellery late on Friday evening.

The accused, Srinivas, fled with the jewellery when the company representative accompanying him left him alone while meeting a customer at SR Nagar.

Four special teams are searching for the accused in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh.At 7.30 pm on Friday, SR Nagar police received a complaint from P Akshay Kumar, sales executive in Radhika Diamonds, alleging that their company driver had escaped with diamond jewellery worth 7 crore.Police said that Radhika Diamonds takes diamond jewellery orders from customers and as per the requirement gets the jewellery items prepared and delivers to the clients.

In further elaboration of the sequence of events, Akshay told police that on Friday evening, he left from the shop at Gachibowli in a car along with Srinivas to deliver diamond ear rings to a customer, Anusha, at Madhura Nagar in SR Nagar."I went inside the house of the customer with ear rings, leaving other diamond and gold jewellery items in the car with the driver.

The car was parked outside the house and before entering the house, I instructed Srinivas to be careful," the complainant said.When Akshay came out of the customer's house, he did not find the car.

"Akshay searched for the vehicle in the surroundings and called Srinivas.

As the phone was switched off, Akshay immediately informed his employer, M Radhika, proprietor of Radhika Diamonds, about the incident," SR Nagar inspector Saidulu said.Radhika, in turn, alerted police and directed Akshay to lodge a complaint.

Police registered a case under sections 408 and 420 of the IPC and launched a manhunt to nab the offender.

West zone DCP Joel Davis formed four special teams to track the absconding accused.

As the accused fled in Karnataka registration number sedan, the special teams are searching for the accused through toll plaza footages.

Police found out that Srinivas had joined Radhika's company two months ago and has been staying at a men's hostel in Madhura Nagar.

Family members of Srinivas are in Eluru and a police team went there but did not trace Srinivas.
