Investigations into the event where an authorities constable had apparently fired at the vehicle of former Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), retired SSP Shani Abeysekera, have been turned over to the CID.

The occurrence had actually supposedly happened on 17 December 2022, when the automobile in question, which was contended by a police officer assigned to his security, had been parked at Abeysekeras residence, police sources stated.

Abeysekera had actually not been at home at the time of the occurrence, and had not been notified of the event either, by the appropriate officer.

Abeysekera later discovered the occurrence when he had actually gone to pump fuel into the automobile, and found a leakage in the fuel tank.

When the vehicle was then sent for repair work, it was revealed that the leakage was caused due to a gunshot.

The previous CID Director subsequently informed the Officer- in-Charge (OIC) of the Borella Police Station of the incident, following which statements were recorded from the law enforcement officer associated with the shooting, while more examinations were handed over to the CID.

Abseysekara was offered with authorities security owing to the several death dangers supposedly received by the former CID Director.
